Arch Hill is a small suburb nestled within Grey Lynn East. The area is primarily residential, and its proximity to Auckland's city centre and convenient access to public transport have made Arch Hill increasingly popular in recent years. While the suburb retains a peaceful, residential feel, Great North Road, the main road, hosts a mix of commercial properties and apartments.
Background
The absence of public open spaces further hinders the development of community bonds. As a result, residents often seek out the neighbouring areas of Ponsonby, Kingsland, and Grey Lynn for social activities and a stronger sense of community. Moreover, the suburb's proximity to Mt. Eden Stadium presents additional challenges. Residents frequently encounter noise, roadblocks, and other disruptions caused by the influx of people attending events at the stadium. The main road often gets blocked during events, cutting off access to some residents' homes.
The primary issues I aimed to address were the lack of community connection and the inconveniences caused by Mt. Eden Stadium. Rather than viewing these as separate pain points, the approach integrated addressing roadblock issues into the broader goal of establishing a community where residents can help each other. An online platform would provide an open space for residents to communicate, allowing them to post needs, report traffic updates, and more. For an instant reward and solution for the traffic issue, a user-exclusive feature, a resident pass, will be implemented to grant verified users access to drive through restricted areas.
