Tuhura

Unlock a World of Maori Knowledge

By Orlando Bonica

For Maori kids living in the remote town of Tikitiki, Tuhura brings a ton of joy and entertainment for those who may have limited access to activities. It can provide a fun and engaging way for them to learn, connect with others, and spark their imagination. Plus, it can help foster creativity and offer a welcome escape from everyday challenges.

Background

Tuhura is a game for young Maori adults, preferably ages 13-19, who live in Tikitiki. Living in rural conditions, the tamariki of Tikitiki find themselves separated from the rest of the country in today's day and age of content and social media, forgetting that there is more to their surrounding environment as they rely on video games and social media as their primary source of entertainment outside of school and sports.

Tuhura combines those concepts of video games, sports, education, and entertainment into one app that helps them get the most out of their outdoors by improving their physical capabilities, learning newfound knowledge while being allowed to play on their device, and getting the best of both.

"Tuhura" was created to engage, educate, and inspire children. It blends Maori culture, offering fun and learning. The game keeps kids engaged, teaches teamwork, and preserves culture. Through "Tuhura," children explore their heritage, learning and connecting with pride. It's a digital gem uniting education and adventure in a culturally rich experience.

Promotional Video

The promotional video's idea was to showcase the beautiful, tranquil scenery of Tikitiki Ngati Porou in a cinematic-style video, inviting viewers to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This approach aims to create a sense of peace and relaxation, encouraging residents and tourists to appreciate the culturally rich environment of Tikitiki, Ngati Porou.

How it works!

Tuhura is a fun and entertaining app that draws inspiration from the interactive Mega Minion Mission campaign in Auckland CBD. It's not just an app, it's an adventure waiting to be explored!

Our app's participants face a variety of challenges, from scanning QR codes and solving riddles to engaging in physical tasks and brain teasers. Each challenge is a unique opportunity to learn about and connect with the rich local culture and discover fun and exciting information about Tikitikis' famous landmarks.

Users can also visit our FAQS in our menu to learn more in-depth about our brand.

Our colors are fun & bright, which capture the attention of a younger audience. They are inspired by the prominent colors of Tikitiki's rugby association,' Waiapu Rugby Sub-union,' reflecting our app's connection to local culture and sports.

The Campaign

The poster is all about that mix of modern tech and the beauty of nature, you know? It's like saying, "I'm all about staying connected, but I also appreciate the great outdoors." This combo is not just a blend, it's the ultimate Gen Z aesthetic – tech-savvy yet still in touch with nature. It captures that perfect blend of the digital age and the natural world of Tikitiki's rural environment, creating a vibe that truly understands the younger audience.
